Armand Bayou Nature Center Expands Its Mission - SSCI Environmental
Armand Bayou Nature Center (ABNC) has recently acquired a 106-acre property that was once the Baywood Country Club. ABNC plans to restore a building that will become its Northern office and establish a native plant and tree nursery. The nursery will support restoration of native habitats and plant communities.
Native plants can help restore wildlife habitat, support pollinators, improve soil stability, and strengthen the resilience of local ecosystems.
What is Armand Bayou Nature Center?
ABNC protects approximately 4,337 acres of wetlands, forests, prairies, and marshes within the Houston metropolitan area. These habitats provide refuge for more than 370 species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians while offering visitors opportunities to experience the region’s natural environment through education, recreation, and conservation programs.
Visitors can explore approximately five miles of nature trails, observe native wildlife, climb the lookout tower, visit the Interpretive Center, and experience life on a reconstructed late 1800s farm. Guided boat tours, canoe trips, wildlife encounters, educational programs, and seasonal workshops provide additional ways to connect with the bayou environment.
Supporting Conservation and Responsible Development
Projects involving habitat restoration, facility improvements, and changes in property use often require careful coordination among environmental specialists, engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Early evaluation can help organizations identify site constraints, protect natural resources, address environmental concerns, and establish a practical path from planning through implementation.
How SSCI Helps Move Projects Forward
SSCI helps public and private-sector clients evaluate environmental conditions, identify regulatory and development constraints, and create a practical path from planning through implementation.
